Under the pandemic situation, the UK government has put some restriction in term of travelling to or from the UK.

The UK is maintaining three list for the countries worldwide, based on their COVID expansion situations;

¨      Green list

¨      Amber list

¨      Red list

Your travel to the UK depends on where (in which country) you have spent your 10 days before you arrive at the UK. This decides the application of certain covid-19 protocols based on the three lists. Each list applies distinct rules for travelling to the UK. Here are some detailed rules that you need to consider prior to leaving for the UK;

Before going to specific rules for each list, few rules are common for everyone before one leave for the UK;

1.      Providing authentic proof of negative covid-19 test (taken within 3 days before your arrival at the UK)

¨    Rules for Green list

Before arrival one must:

1.      Provide authentic proof of negative covid-19 test (taken within 3 days before your arrival at the UK)

2.      Book and pay for day 2 covid-19 test (after arrival in the UK)

3.      Complete a passenger locator form

On arrival in the UK:

  1. One must take a covid-19 test on or before day 2 after you arrive
  2. Exemption of covid-19 test for the children aged 4 or under
  3. You don’t need to quarantine unless your get positive test result
  4. you must quarantine if NHS Test & Trace detects that you travelled to the UK with a person tested positive for covid-19

¨    Rules for Amber list

Before arrival one must:

1.      Provide authentic proof of negative covid-19 test (taken within 3 days before your arrival at the UK)

2.      Book and pay for day 2 and day 8 covid-19 test (after arrival in the UK)

3.      Complete a passenger locator form

On arrival in the UK:

  1. One must take a covid-19 test on or before day 2 and on day 8
  2. Quarantine for 10 days at home or in the place you are staying
  3. Exemption of covid-19 test for the children aged 4 or under

¨    Rules for Red list

You cannot travel to the UK if you have been in a red list country in preceding 10 days except you are:

§  A British national

§  An Irish national

§  Anyone with residence rights in the UK

Before arrival one must:

1.      Provide authentic proof of negative covid-19 test (taken within 3 days before your arrival at the UK)

2.      Book and pay for day 2 and day 8 covid-19 test (after arrival in the UK)

3.      Complete a passenger locator form

On arrival one must:

  1. quarantine for 10 full days in a managed quarantine hotel (the day you arrive in England counts as day 0)
  2. take a covid-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 of quarantining
  3. follow the national restrictions

 Remember, providing false information related to your travel history or breaking any quarantine rule could result in heavy fine of up to £10,000 or imprisonment up to 10 year or both.

NOTE: quarantine restrictions for amber list country passengers and most of the other restrictions related to covid-19 in the UK are lifted/ ended from July 19, 2021.
