Requirements and eligibility criteria for international students

Usually universities do three intakes in a year:

• Spring – January to April
• Summer – May to August
• Autumn – September to November

Yet, some universities do one and some do two intakes in a year in the UK. So, make sure to be ready prior to the admission dates. Well, if you’re looking for the requirements or eligibility criteria for getting admission in the UK colleges or universities, here are some universal requirements that you need to know for getting admission in a UK university;      

Requirements for undergraduate programs

1. Personal Statements

A comprehensive statement comprises of about four thousand words describing the applicant’s area of interests, previous achievements, reason to select the specific subject and university. This gives the applicant an edge over the other students and helps him/her in securing a better spot in a top ranked university.

2. Apply Through UCAS 

UCAS is playing a very vital role in assisting international students for getting admission in the high rank international universities by saving the students from the hassle of applying for each university separately. Applicants are only required to filling out their personal information and university codes along with their personal statement. UCAS lets applicant know if he/she is accepted by any university, provides detailed information of the course, starting date, fee structure and everything that a new student needs to know.

3. Interview for the visa  

After the confirmation of the admission by the university, the student will be asked for interview for visa. This interview is comprehensively centered on the questions of the students’ interest in the degree, family background, ability to meet his study and other expenditures, etc. However, visa interviews also require several documents from the applicants;

• CAS form
• Passport
• English language proficiency test (ILETS, TOFEL, etc. with minimum 5.5 score)
• Capacity to fund their own studies
• Two passport size photographs
• Academic certificates
• Birth certificate  

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS 

1. An undergraduate degree or a degree from a recognized institution

Getting admission in the prestigious universities of the UK requires a lot of efforts and requirements to fulfill.

REQUIREMENTS for PHD PROGRAMS 

This is a high-class research based study program that requires students to show extreme amount of enthusiasm to illustrate why they are pursuing this degree. One must fulfill these requirements to secure a safe position in the top universities of the UK;

1. Academic qualification 

It is mandatory to give your all the preceding academic documents. One must have a postgraduate degree that affirms the eligibility of getting admission in PhD.  

2. Work experience 

As this is a high-class degree, some universities requires work experience along with the good academic results to check the level of seriousness of the applicant towards such higher studies.

3. Language clearance tests

One must give proof of proficiency of English language (ILETS, TOFEL, etc. with minimum 5.5 score) 

4. Funding the studies

Students need to proof of their self-sufficiency in funding all the expenditures of their studies.  

5. Interview

Some universities interview the applicant to closely analyse his/her internal capabilities and keenness towards completing this degree.   

6. Letter of recommendation 

A letter of recommendation is required from the previous institute or employer that serves as a reference and proof of good conduct and hard working persona of the applicant.         

7. Passion 

This is not a separate requirement but a mandatory one for the students to show their passion in their application (personal statement) and interview to convince the officials of the University of why are they the perfect candidates for this degree, to secure their place in the prestigious universities of the UK.

The UK educational system is spread on 9 levels that start from Entry level to Level 8 studies;

Initial three levels, from entry level to level 2 are GCSE (school), level 3 contains ‘A level’ (college) and from level 4 onwards the educational system spreads on foundation degree to doctorate.

Entry-level, Level 1 & Level 2

            Entry-level, Level 1, and Level 2 are the beginning level steps towards advanced studies. They begin with the preliminary set of knowledge of basic subjects and gradually advance towards a more detailed knowledge of the study topics. Such levels prepare you to become capable of entering level 3.

Level 3

            Level 3 are National certificates that include the foundation level study, that contain deeper knowledge and are the pathways towards higher national certificates. These enable you to get admission in bachelors’ level studies. They are more crucial than the basic levels; entry, 1, and 2.

Level 4

            Level 4 are also called higher national certificates. These are the initial or first-level studies of B.A, etc. These certificates encompass non-routine and initial-level complex problem-solving educational areas.

Level 5

            It is referred to as a foundation degree that is equal to the second year of B.A., in which students get to learn various perspectives and approaches and can evaluate the practical aspects of what they are studying. Being a foundation degree, this level prepares students for the last level of B.A.

Level 6

            This level is the terminal level of B.A. This enables students to get the degree that is equivalent to graduate or bachelors with honours. Since it is the terminal level study of B.A, it includes evaluation of many complex issues and allows the learner to not only evaluate the problem but give its basic implications.

Level 7

            This level is also denoted as Master level or Postgraduate. This is a higher and even more professional-level of study that includes high depth researches. Level 7 degrees are based on highly research-oriented methodologies, thereby enabling students to secure appealing research careers.

Level 8

            This is the last level that one can do in the UK. This is a PhD level study. It is based on the evaluation of highly complex contemporary problems and enables students to attain a hands-on experience in critical theoretical as well as practical domains of study.

Travel to UK- Rules & Guidance (Covid-19)

Under the pandemic situation, the UK government has put some restriction in term of travelling to or from the UK.

The UK is maintaining three list for the countries worldwide, based on their COVID expansion situations;

• Green list
• Amber list
• Red list

Your travel to the UK depends on where (in which country) you have spent your 10 days before you arrive at the UK. This decides the application of certain covid-19 protocols based on the three lists.
